Welcome to Barrington Middle School!

The Barrington Middle School is a vibrant community of middle-level learners located in the southeastern part of New Hampshire.  We are an accredited educational institution through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and are a long-standing member of the New England League of Middle Schools.  Our facility, constructed as a state of the art middle school in 2004, has a capacity of 666 students and a total square footage of 112,000 sq. ft.  Presently, there are 447 total students in grades 5 through 8.  Our average class size is approximately 22 students.  Our school made annual yearly progress (AYP) on our most recent (Fall 2011) state NECAP testing in all categories.

BMS has 38 certified professional staff members, over half of whom have a master’s degree or higher.  Our teachers, guidance counselors, and students are supported in their work by 19 paraprofessional educators, a school psychologist, a speech therapist, an occupational therapist, a technology teacher, principal and an assistant principal.  In addition, BMS employs a full-time librarian, a REACH (Humanities) teacher, two administrative assistants, a full-time nurse, and a highly regarded food services and custodial staff.  Our daily school hours are 7:30 AM to 2:05 PM.

BMS students partake in an enriching standards-based curriculum within a traditional middle school format.  Teaching teams are organized by subject areas into multiple classroom “pods”  within the building providing for continuity of scheduling and instruction.  These “core” subject areas are Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.  Students also take classes on a rotation basis from Unified Arts teachers over the course of the year.  These classes include Art, Physical Education, Family and Consumer Science, Technology Education, and Music.  BMS students begin their day in a 15 minute Advisory program where every student engages with a caring adult who serves as a mentor and advisor for the child. Our schedule concludes each day with a 50-minute, school wide RtI “SUCCESS” block dedicated to improving the literacy skills of all of our students.  BMS students and staff are Respectful, Responsible, and Safe!

BMS students also have access to a wide variety of co-curricular offerings including band and chorus, drama club, student council, yearbook, and robotics.  In addition, BMS offers a variety of fall, winter, and spring sports and intramural programs including soccer, field hockey, golf, track, cross country, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, and special olympics.
