Welcome to TECH ED
Grade 5 / Elective: Grade five Technology Education will focus on the roots of technology, systems of measurement, manufacturing, and the creation of a safe working environment. Students will learn how to work cooperatively and safely to produce simple manufactured projects using hand, power and technology tools. Each student will have several projects to take home. 16-18 students
Grade 6 / Elective: Grade six students will focus on civil engineering, information, communication and electrical technologies. Students will learn to use computer based drafting software to produce and test scale models of truss bridges. They will then transition to the shop where they will build, troubleshoot and load test the bridge they designed. The second half of the class will be dedicated to the study and application of direct current electricity. 16-18 students
Grade 7 / Required: Grade seven Technology Education will focus on transportation technology, construction technology, engineering principles and design. Students will use computer based drafting and design software to create a three dimensional model of a CO2 powered race car. The class will transition to the shop where they will build, test, modify, troubleshoot, and race their cars. At the conclusion of this unit students will have the opportunity to create a simple woodworking project of their choosing.
Grade 8 / Required: Grade eight Technology Education students will study engineering, construction, energy and power technologies. The term will begin with the study and application of hydraulics and pneumatics. Students will design and create a functioning hydraulic or pneumatic arm from wood, plastics, and metals. We will end the term with the study of construction where students will draft and create a model of a framed building. As always, eighth graders will have a choice in making a final, independent wood working project.
